The Importance of Bath Safety

Most parents are very knowledgeable when it comes to the dangers associated with having infants around a backyard pool or creek. But sometimes there's another water hazard that is often overlooked. Bath safety is a serious issue that is often lightly touched upon but not to the extent of outdoor water safety.

Few people realize the drowning is a number one cause of death due to injury for children one to four years of age. The accidents do not always occur in swimming pools, lakes or ponds. Many of these treasures occurred in and not perceived safety of the hall what could have been prevented proper bath safety had been followed. Considering that a child can drown in just two inches of water makes us want to look at the bathroom very closely.

Tragically, more than half the children drowned each year in the bathtub. And while there are especially in an made seats designed specifically for bath safety, they also offer a false sense of security. This can be very dangerous because the parent may leave the child unattended for a moment to tend to something else with the mistaken belief that the child is protected in the bath seat.

It only takes seconds for drownings to occur so it is absolutely crucial to keep the infant within arms reach at all times. This is a prudent bath safety approach that can save lives. We all know and that the tub can be a very slippery place and specialized finish its do have the life, but they're not made to the babysitters. Put another way, never, ever leave your baby unattended in the bathtub.

Take care of whenever you need to do before putting the baby in the tub because on the child is in the to you must he or she your undivided attention. If you do have to step away, take the baby with you even if this means getting soaked. This is nothing in light of the big picture because you're a baby's bath safety is the only thing that matters. It's a good practice to keep at least one hand on the baby during most of the bathing process as well.

Bath safety is not specifically for the tub alone. Other dangers lurk in the bathroom as well. Little ones can find trouble in the toilet as well. An infant should never be in a bathroom without adult supervision. This also means that younger children should not supervise the baby in the bathing area, either. Leaving your five-year-old to watch the baby while you answer the phone is incredibly irresponsible and dangerous.

Bedwetting Diapers Disposable Products For Older Bedwetters

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:02 AM

By Peter Crump

Bedwetting diapers are not just for infants and babies. They come in sizes all the way up to adult so that any one with a bed wetting problem can feel secure that he/she will not wake up to wet sheets in the morning. Along with ensuring you or your child a dry night, wearing diapers at night means you also have less mess to clean up. These diapers are disposable, so they wont add to your mounds of laundry. Actually, disposable bedwetting diapers will cut down on the amount of laundry that you have to do because you will no longer have to wash bedclothes each day.

Even with having bedwetting diapers for your child, you still have to pursue other methods for treating the problem of bed wetting. These diapers can give the child or adult a false sense of relief and not really do anything to help the problem at all. If there is a medical reason for the bedwetting, you know that using bed wetting diapers will probably be only a temporary measure. If there is no medical reason, then you need to combine using an adult bed wetting diaper each night with a method of behavior modification such as using an enuresis alarm to wake the wearer at the first sign of moisture.

There are bedwetting diapers that look just like underpants. This makes it much easier for your child to sleep at a friends house without anyone knowing about the bedwetting. These diapers have an absorbent liner that soaks up the urine and does not let it seep through to the pyjamas or the bedclothes. However, if the child is in bed for a long time, there is the possibility that some of the urine will seep out through the legs of the diapers causing an accident. The top layer of plastic on a bedwetting diaper helps to keep the moisture away from the skin.

You do have to be aware of the cost involved in using larger size disposable bedwetting diapers. This is why you do need to look for treatments that will not only reduce the number of bedwetting episodes, but will help cure the problem. There are child and adult bed wetting diapers that you can get that are reusable. This type of diaper is a cheaper alternative to the disposable bed wetting diaper. It also comes like a pair of underpants or a liner that fits on the underpants. With these adult bedwetting diapers, the person still feels wet, but the wetness does not seep through to the clothing. The wetness helps to wake the adult up so he/she can go to the bathroom.

You do have to choose the best bedwetting diapers for your child. Look at the liners, diapers and absorbent underpants to determine which one would best meet the needs of the child or adult. Liners are strips of absorbent material that have a sticky side that adheres to the underpants, thus keeping them in place. They are not noticeable and will not irritate the skin in the same way as some bedwetting diapers will.

Baby Gift Shopping 101

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:02 AM

By Kimberly Green

Baby gifts are extremely fun to shop for. Whether you're shopping for yourself, a friend, or even an anonymous recipient set up for you via a baby gift swap or upcoming surprise party, there's nothing more exciting than picking out a few cherished items for mom-to-be and upcoming baby.
But don't let the excitement overwhelm you. While there are many wonderful baby gifts to choose from, there are some baby gifts that are better off remaining on the shelves, while others should be immediately tucked into shopping carts and baskets, and brought home to be packaged, wrapped and beribboned.

Let's start with some sensible baby gifts. Choosing practical items means picking items that are both wanted and needed. Large items like baby cribs, bassinets, high chairs, strollers and car seats are all wonderful baby gifts, even if they are rather expensive and bulky. Of course, make sure that the recipient wants and needs the particular large baby gift that you're thinking of purchasing.

Smaller baby gifts that are both practical and desired include clothing, diapers (be sure to check if the mother-to-be is going to be using disposable or cloth), feeding supplies (bottles for a formula feeding mother, shields, creams and pillows for a breastfeeding mother) and travel gear (visors for car windows, baby viewing mirrors to attach on rearview mirrors, shopping cart covers).

You can never go wrong with clothing as a choice for baby gifts. All babies need clothes! Boy clothes and girl clothes are available in abundance at all stores that carry children's clothing. You can find baby clothes bundled together in adorable gift sets, or you can take regular clothing items and wrap them together. Onesies, creepers and gowns make great baby gifts for newborns, while adorable little outfits and outerwear work well for older babies.

Toys are another good choice for baby gifts. Soft, plush toys that are made for a baby's small hands to grab onto are a wonderful choice. Stuffed animals, "lovey" blankets with tags and different texture, and attachments for car seats and strollers are made in a variety of styles, materials and priced affordably for anyone to purchase.

In the end, you're best sticking with "approved" baby gifts -- those listed on the pregnant woman's baby registry. If there isn't a registry present, you can choose a gift and make sure to send along a gift receipt, just in case. And if all else fails, purchase a gift card! Gift cards can be purchased for almost all stores, including Target, Wal-mart and Babies 'r Us. I don't know of a single mom who doesn't make use of a gift card!

Kimberly Green is a mother, a sister, an auntie and has several other fellow mothers in her life. She has purchased many a Baby Gifts and attended many a baby showers in her day. Baby Gifts are her favorite thing to shop for.

Edible Baby Shower Favors - Adding a Little Extra Sweetness to Your Celebration

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:02 AM

By Sarah Freeland

Sweet treats, and edible party favors are always a good means to save some pocket dough for a host or hostess. Not only are they fairly inexpensive, but a batch of cookies tends to go a long way while putting together small packets of goodies that not only appease children, but adults alike.

One thing to seriously consider is baking simple sugar cookies. This is a fun, and very flavorful way to thank your guests. You can either make , or purchase simple sugar cookie dough, and use either pre-made or self-made cutters in the shapes of things such as: ducks, teddy bears, carriages, umbrellas, bottles etc. Remember, if you are throwing a goth, or punk theme party you may want to use a little more subdued colors (rather than the bright pastels). Another fun way to give the gift of cookies, is by simply pouring simple ingredients into small (pre-measured) zip-top bags, along with a recipe written on paper cohesive to the invitations. Don't forget, if you do this you may want to come up with a funny little quip about expecting a baby, however please take into consideration that there might be grandparents in attendance (so try to keep lewd comments at a minimum). These cookies are limited only by the imagination of those who are creating them.

Another good way to bring a little flavor into the cookie's already tasty life, is by creating personalized fortune cookies. Although these aren't your novice cookies, anyone who has at least a little bit of experience will have a Chinese restaurant quality cookie in no time. Remember, when making the personalized fortunes, the sky is still the limit, some ideas are:

*This child will be president one day.

* This will be you in a years time.

*You will fall in love with a bundle of joy.

* You will have a future rocker on your hands.

However not quite so in-expensive, you are now able to customize M&M's online. The packages run anywhere from ten, to twenty dollars depending on the quantity. If you are throwing a Gothic theme party, I would suggest selecting colors in the gray, black and white family along with your every-day pastel pinks or blues depending on if the parents know the gender. Some fun phrases that can be incorporated in the M&M's would be :

* Breast milk vampire

* Just arrived

* Baby blues

* Baby on board

* Pregnant

* Hands off

* Super woman

Show your baby's style by dressing them up in your favorite band's t-shirts & onesies. Whether it's The Ramones, Led Zeppelin or 311, there are punk rock baby clothes as well as funny baby clothes, toddler shirts, gothic maternity clothes and diaper bags available. Other kids clothing and gift items include: Toddler skate shoes, slogan baby clothes, rompers, baby bibs, beanies and baby shower favors.

The Benefits of Adult Disposable Diapers

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:02 AM

By Steve Valentino

Perhaps the most recognized form of incontinence absorption is the adult disposable diaper. We have all seen television advertisements for top selling brands like Depends. Adult disposable diapers are similar to diapers used by young children and are very absorptive.

Adult disposable diapers are made from gel-like polymer beads that, when dry, are very small, about the same size as table salt. When they become wet, they expand up to 800 times their original size. These beads are the key component in disposable diapers and are the reason that they are super-absorbent. Incontinence sufferers can choose from a wide range of absorbencies from light to severe incontinence. The beads, and all other materials used in the diapers, are non-toxic to humans, making for a safe and effective means of controlling wetness. Additionally, adult disposable diapers often have elastic in the leg portion that can further prevent leaking urine from escaping.

Adult disposable diapers come not only in varying degrees of absorbencies, but also in various sizes. The most commonly purchased sizes are small, medium and large. You should choose a size that will fit snugly yet comfortably. Diapers that are too large may result in an uncomfortable fit and leave room for leakage onto the body and clothing.

People who use the disposable adult diapers like them for many reasons. Firstly, they are generally more accessible and do not need to be washed and dried. There is no need for additional plastic pants. Others claim that you are better able to keep the skin dry by using a very absorptive adult disposable diaper than a reusable cloth diaper. Cloth diapers have to be changed nearly immediately after becoming soaked, which could pose a problem if you are unable to change it quickly. Disposable diapers need to be changed soon after wetting, but can handle much more absorption than their cloth counterparts.

A Parent's Review Of Huggies Diapers

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:02 AM

By Jacob Sakol

Huggies diapers have been a staple for millions of new parents for years. During that time, Huggies Corp. have released several different types of diapers including their Huggies Supreme, UltraTrim, Overnites and Snug and Dry brands. Each diaper has its respective pros and cons. Having tried the UltraTrim and Supreme diapers with my infant, I can offer some comments that will help you decide which brand of diapers is right for your baby.

Are Huggies Diapers Easy To Use?

Most Huggies come with small (approximately 1" x 1") velcro tabs attached. The tabs can be found on the back and top parts of the diapers. These tabs make the job of putting the diaper on your child very easy. If you need to make the diaper fit your baby more snugly, you can do so quickly by simply adjusting the velcro tabs.

Are Huggies Comfortable For Your Baby?

The company claims its diapers are "baby-shaped," implying that the diapers are designed to perfectly fit the contours of your baby's body. Frankly, this is true of most respected brands of diapers. Some Huggies are well-designed to provide comfort for your child. Others are not. For example, the front layer on the Supreme type diapers is thicker than many brands which offers extra comfort. However, the back layer is thin. In my opinion, Huggies should have made the back layer thicker. It would prove handy for babies that are trying to walk. The extra layer would provide cushion when your baby falls on its bottom.

The UltraTrim brand is also a bit lacking in comfort. As its name implies, the diaper is very thin. That may irritate your child's skin if they're doing a lot of crawling. However, some people claim that thinner diapers actually allow your baby to walk more easily. It may be best to make your decision about using UltraTrim diapers based upon whether your baby is walking or crawling.

How Well Do Huggies Absorb Moisture?

Of course, a key consideration is whether a diaper absorbs moisture effectively and stays dry. In my experience, the Supreme diapers did not absorb well. Not only did I detect some wetness, but I also noticed strange white flakes and grains that came from the diaper on my child's skin. On the other hand, the UltraTrim diapers had a great sponge factor. I never noticed any residual wetness or leakages from the diaper (nor any flakes!). In my experience, the UltraTrims have much better absorption than the Supreme diapers.

My Last Thoughts On Huggies Diapers

Huggies diapers aren't cheap. In fact, they're one of the higher-priced diaper brands on the market. As babies go through diapers quickly, using Huggies could prove very costly. A few of my friends have used Huggies and thought that they were good diapers but not worth the hefty price tag. That said, if you can find a coupon for a discount or even a way to get free Huggies diapers, definitely take advantage of it. You may find that the brand is a perfect fit for your child.

Disposable Diapers

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:02 AM

By Jimmy Sturo

Diapers are undoubtedly an integral part of a baby's growing up years and disposable diapers are largely preferred by working parents for their convenience. Invented by Marion Donovan of the US, disposable diapers are a very expensive baby accessory. However, they are chosen by parents who are largely pressed for time.

When disposable diapers were first introduced in the mid 1950s, they were primarily plastic diapers with plenty of fluff. However, the present breed of disposables have come a long way. All of them are available with water-resistant covers, absorbent pads and dry-weave sheets to make the baby feel as dry and comfortable as possible. There are no attachment diaper pins needed, since most of these diapers come with excellent leak-proof Velcro attachments.

Disposable diapers, in spite of their easy-to-use factor, bring along with them a host of health problems for the baby. The most common problem is diaper rash. Due to repeated urination and lack of proper air circulation, babies often develop rashes that can be extremely painful. Some health experts are of the opinion that dyes used in disposable diapers may lead to permanent damage to the baby's liver as well as the central nervous system. There are even stray reports by some doctors and medical professionals the toxic gas emanating from a used disposable diaper may lead to asthma. The absorbent pads within the diapers contain a chemical solution(present as gel) known as sodium polyacrylate. This controls the fluid within the diaper, preventing leakage. However, this is the chemical that is solely responsible for diaper rashes.

In spite of such obvious drawbacks, disposable diaper manufacturers claim that their products have been repeatedly tested and proved safe. Big production companies also claim to have employed quality-control experts to look for manufacturing defects. Such repeated assurances from manufacturers have led many parents to switch to disposable diapers from cloth ones that are usually considered to be a healthier option.

However, the fact remains that most disposable diapers occupy huge portions of land(once they are disposed) in a world that is becoming increasingly short of space. There are also a number of air borne and water borne diseases that might arise out of such garbage. Human diapers may even prove to be fatal for animals if the toxic gas is inhaled. The disposed of diapers may even affect plant life and may go on to have a detrimental effect on our environment.

Finding The Best Baby Shower Gifts For The Mother To Be

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:02 AM

By Shaunta Pleasant

There is no doubt that the upcoming birth of a new baby is an exciting and thrilling time in the life of any woman, and the traditional way to mark that occasion is with a well planned baby shower.

A baby shower is a great way to show a friend, a family member or a coworker how much you care about her and her new baby.

== Buying Baby Shower Gifts ==

When it comes to buying baby shower gifts, however, many people find themselves at a loss. For instance, those who do not yet have children of their own may be unsure of just what is and is not needed for the new baby.

== Ask Her Friends And Family For Ideas She Will Like ==

Often the best way to find out what would be the perfect gifts for the expectant mother is to ask her friends and family members.

The new mother's friends and family will be in the best position to know exactly what she needs for the new arrival. This is particularly important when shopping for an expectant mother who already has one or more children.

Chances, are these expectant mothers already have the basic things like clothes, strollers, baby seats and cribs.

== Baby Shower Gift Ideas ==

Even for mothers with children who have the basics taken care of, however, there are a number of baby gifts that are always needed and always appreciated.

For instance, diapers, while they may not be the most glamorous of gifts to bring to the baby shower, will always be needed and always be appreciated. Just be sure to ask around and determine the brand the expectant mother prefers.

Or if she plans to use cloth diapers, you can always purchase a gift certificate or prepay for a baby diaper service. This is another gift that is always appreciated by any new mother.

Things like toys, rattles, baby wipes and the like can be great gifts as well. Many people like to use an attractive rattle or other toy to decorate the gift box and provide an extra special gift.

== Baby Gift Registry ==

Some expectant mothers will create a baby registry their friends and family members can use to shop for gifts for the baby shower, so it is always important to check to see if such a registry exists.

A baby shower registry makes it much easier for friends and family members to shop, and helps ensure that every gift purchased is one that is needed and will be appreciated.

Newborn Baby's First Nights at Home - Tips to Help Your Baby Learn to Sleep Throughout the Night

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By Connie Limon

You have a new baby, oh what wonder and joy this little guy or gal is, however, you have not had a good night's sleep since being home with this wonderful little creature. Don't give up. You can help your new baby sleep all night, every night. And remember, you are certainly not alone. Sleepless nights are something common for most new parents.

Newborn babies often sleep 16 or more hours per day. Their sleep time, however, is often done in stretches of just one to two hours at a time. As your baby's nervous system matures a more consistent sleep schedule emerges and he or she can go longer between feedings.

By the time your new baby reaches three months of age he or she will probably be sleeping for as long as five hours during the night. At six months of age, nighttime stretches of nine to 12 hours are most likely.

Look over the following tips to help your baby become a good sleeper:

Encourage activity during the day: During the waking hours with your baby keep him or her busy by talking, singing and playing. Provide your baby with lots of light. This type of stimulation during the day can help promote better sleep at night.

Monitor your baby's naps: Allow your baby regular naps during the day and not large chunks of time that may cause your baby to stay wide awake at night.

Follow a consistent bedtime routine: If you bath, cuddle, sing or read to your baby just before bedtime he or she will soon associate these activities with sleep.

Put your baby to bed drowsy but awake: This technique helps your baby associate bed with the process of falling asleep. Place your baby to sleep on his or her back. Clear the crib or bassinet of blankets and other soft items.

Give your baby time to settle down: If your baby fusses when you first put him to bed, allow him or her to find a comfortable position for falling asleep. If the crying does not stop within a reasonable amount of time, try speaking calmly to your baby and stroke his or her back to provide reassurance of your presence.

Consider using a pacifier: If your baby has trouble settling down, try using a pacifier at nap time and bedtime to help reduce his anxiety. One problem of using a pacifier might be if he or she loses during the middle of the night and cries for its replacement. Guess who has to get up in the middle of the night to find the pacifier for baby?

Expect frequent stirring at night: Don't be alarmed if you hear your baby squirming and wriggle as they sleep. This is quite normal. Some babies can be noisy. All these things may simply be a sign of settling down. Unless you suspect your baby is hungry or uncomfortable (needing a diaper change or whatever), it is OK to wait a few minutes to see if he or she finally settles down. If not, then better check on baby.

Keep nighttime care low-key: When you feed your baby or care for he or she during the night, use dim lights, a soft voice and very calm movements. This will teach your baby that it is time to sleep and nothing else.

Some babies sleep throughout the night the first night home. I know my baby slept through the night straight from the beginning of our nights at home. She was such a good baby I would always say.

However, not all babies are alike; respect your baby's preferences. Take time to understand your baby's schedule and ways of communicating. They will eventually settle down and sleep the whole night through. If your baby is still fussy at nighttime by age 6 months, ask your baby's doctor for instruction and suggestions.

The goal here is for everyone to get a good night's sleep. It is not a measure of your parental skill or a sign of a good or bad baby. I just always thought my baby was the absolute best at everything, and sleeping throughout the night was just one more reason I thought she was "perfect." She has paid me back though as an adult, and what I got to say about her now is not the same.....At times I ask myself is this the same person I use to know as a baby, toddler and child?

Cloth Diaper - 7 Reasons To Choose Over Disposable Diaper

Charlie And Lola Gifts For Everyone

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By Thomas Baugh

Charlie and Lola, the main characters from the hit television show of the same name, are huge in the UK. Children up and down the country tune in everyday to hear their stories and when the show is finished, kids love to read their books. As a result, Charlie and Lola gifts have become massive sellers, and for good reason.

What parents like about Charlie and Lola is the values that they instil in the children that watch. Charlie is Lola's older brother and his love and affection for his younger sister provide an excellent example of how siblings should care for each other. Children, on the other hand, just love the crazy adventures that Lola has, meaning it's a perfect example of a well crafted children's television series.

What's amazing about the show is how simple the animations actually are. The original images from the books of Lauren Child haven't been modified in any way for television and children seem to love the simplicity of the cartoon.

Particularly innovative is the fact that Charlie and Lola are voiced by two children and not by voice-over specialists. Child psychologists have agreed that children seem to subconsciously relate far better to actual child's voices even though they might not be able to tell the difference.

When it comes to Charlie and Lola gifts there are a multitude of different ones available. From lunchboxes and table sets to door signs and waste paper baskets, you can get nearly anything with Charlie and Lola images plastered on.

Perhaps somewhat strange is the adult following that Charlie and Lola seem to have gathered. The images of the two characters have appeared on t-shirts, notepads and a whole host of other products aimed at the adult market.

If you're looking for Charlie and Lola gifts then the best place to find them is online. Although they are scattered around in a number of well-known stores, you can find the complete collection in some well-established internet shops.

Diaper Rash And the Way I Handled It

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By O Quinn

I thought I was the perfect mother. Changing diapers after every nap and before every feeding and often inbetween. Making sure to clean thoroughly with wonderfully scented baby wipes each time. The babys bottom was beautfiul. Notice I used the past tense. And this was baby number six! As foster parents we had cared for our share of baby bottoms. Then it hit. Diaper rash. It came so quickly. And I had no idea how to cope.

I received advice from every corner of the globe. And the funny thing is even though everyone had their own idea, they were all good and they all worked. Hmmmm....

My mom praised browned flour.

My friend swore by Eucerine.

My aunt said only A & D worked for her babies.

But yet another foster mom swore by Butt Paste!

And to top it off they were handing out samples of yet another diaper rash cream at my local store!

What did I do?

After panicking and calling the advice nurse I analyzed the situation and applied my attack plan.

The rash comes about because tender baby skin is being exposed to irritants. Sometimes its an allergic reaction to a new food or the wipes themselves. Sometimes the brand of diaper is the culprit. Many reasons can bring on diaper rash and many solutions can clear it up.

Now I keep a variety of things on hand and here is my personal attack plan for hands on healing.

1. Mix up solution of distilled water, 2-3 drops of *tea tree oil and a dash of castille soap. Soak papertowels in this for diaper wipes.

2. Change baby diaper very often and try to give a good airing if time permits.

3. Slather on zinc diaper ointment and then whatever heavy duty moisturizer I have on hand (vaseline, Eucerine) over this. If it was bedtime add a diaper liner for good measure.

Some other tips I use:

Keep Clotrimazole on hand for yeast rashes.

Keep a handy chart of the different types of diaper rashes

Call the doctor is improvement isnt seen in 24 hours.

With these methods I dont fear the dreaded diaper rash any more.

Diaper Rash

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By Jimmy Sturo

Diaper Rashes are often caused by excessively moist or dirty diapers. It is a skin inflammation that mostly occurs when the tender skin of a baby reacts to the continuous wetness due to urination or diarrhea. Since it is only a skin inflammation and not a disease, it can be effectively treated at home without any professional medical intervention. However, one needs to be watchful to spot the tell-tale signs of a diaper rash and take immediate action to stop it.

The symptoms of a diaper infection usually include redness of the affected area. The skin may develop blisters, and in some acute cases, may even crack. At times, there could be tiny ulcers in and around the area.

Babies suffering from diaper rash, are often quite fussy, showing signs of extreme discomfort by frequent crying.

Immediate steps must be taken to relieve the child of such pain. The child should firstly be kept diaper-free for as long as possible during the day. The skin should be properly aired in order to make it moisture-free. When wearing diapers, baby should be changed often, and the baby's bottom should be washed only with water, since soaps(even mild ones) may create irritation. The baby should be dried properly. Talcum powder should be avoided on all costs. In its place, some creams or ointments may help the skin repair and should be applied at each changing after cleansing.

Most diaper rashes will disappear if the above tips are carefully followed. However, there could be some rashes that might get worse(a fungal infection). In such cases, help may be sought from a doctor. The doctor will prescribe creams or ointments which contain anti-bacterial medicine to alleviate the problem.

Baby Gift Baskets Make Great Personalized Gifts

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By Stuart Benjamin

If you know someone who is expecting, you will more than likely receive a shower invitation in the mail. For some people, trying to come up with the perfect baby shower gift can be a harrowing, stressful experience. They want to give a gift that will be useful, unique, and remembered. It is not always easy to find something that fits those categories.

It is easy to find a useful baby shower gift, all you really have to do is run out and grab a bag of diapers from the nearest store. But, how many other bags of diapers do you think the new parents are likely to receive? That being said, your useful gift would definitely not be unique, and would only be remembered until the next bag of diapers had to be opened.

There is one gift that we often overlook, but that would work great in this situation, a baby gift basket. If you take your time, putting thought and effort into your gift, you will have something that is not only useful, but that is unique and sure to be remembered by the receiver for quite some time.

You have two options when it comes to baby gift baskets, you can either purchase a pre-made basket, or pick and choose each component yourself, and put them all together in a beautiful basket. You may have a local gift shop near your home that sells pre-made baby gift baskets, so that all you have to do is walk in, pick the one you want, lay down the cash, and take it to the shower. If not, there are many companies online that sell personalized baskets, and some that will even allow you to have some say as to what items the basket is filled with. The only downside to this is that you have to place your order well in advance, you have to pay for shipping, and you still have no real guarantee that your order will arrive in time for the party.

The best, surefire way to create a wonderful, personalized baby gift basket is to make your own. Think about how much money you want to spend on your gift, and choose an appropriate sized basket that you like. The idea is to choose a basket that can be used later for other purposes, maybe as a hold-all in the baby nursery, which will not only add to it's usefulness, but will help the new parents remember your gift as well.

Once your basket has been chosen, the real fun comes when you start choosing what items to fill it with. You can be creative here, and just purchase baby items that you like and think would be useful, or you can use the mother-to-be's gift registry, if one is available. You will likely be surprised at just how many great baby items your baby gift basket can hold!

Baby wipes, shampoo, lotion, cotton balls, rattles, baby spoons, baby washcloths, and baby care kits will all fill up your baby gift basket rather quickly, and will be very useful to the expectant parents. The gift registry will be helpful in case there is a specific brand or product that the new parents plan to use. You want to be certain that you purchase items from the list whenever possible.

Keep in mind when you are doing your shopping that the new parents will likely receive tons of gifts for their new baby, but likely won't receive anything that they can use themselves. Toss in a few non-baby, adult items for the parents, and your baby gift basket will be an even bigger hit. It doesn't have to be expensive items, maybe an aromatherapy candle or some bath beads for mom, and maybe some gourmet coffee or sweets for dad. If you know the expectant parents well, and they have favorite hobbies that you know of, then you could even try to choose small hobby related gifts for them. Again, these gifts don't have to be large expensive items, just something that lets mom and dad know they are special too.

When you have finished your shopping, you will need to gather everything together and arrange it in your baby gift basket in a neat, appealing way. The idea is to fill it as full as possible, without making it appear jumbled or thrown together. If you want to spruce it up a little more, use some tissue paper, or a pretty receiving blanket to line the bottom of the blanket with, and allow it to overhang all around the rim of the basket. To make the process easier, spread your cellophane out on a flat surface, set your basket in the middle, and then fill it, so that all you have to do is gather up the cellophane around the basket and secure it at the top with a ribbon or bow.

Attach a personalized card, with a special message to the outside of the basket, and you are all set for the shower. When the new parents see your baby gift basket, they will think that you spent a lot of time and effort on your gift, and will really appreciate it, both now, and in the future as they use your gifts!

A Surprise Baby Shower Can Be the Perfect Way to Celebrate

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By Randy Wilson

Throwing a surprise baby shower doesnt have to be difficult. In fact, it can be fun for all involved. All it takes is a little patience, a few basic steps, and the cooperation of friends and family.

A surprise shower does involve some secrets, so remember to be stealthy. But you will want to make sure that the mom-to-be will be up for a surprise. Early on in her pregnancy, try to ascertain if she is up for a surprise baby shower or if she would rather know in advance. This could eliminate surprising mom-to-be when she is not feeling up to it. (If mom-to-be knows she has a surprise baby shower coming up, she will be more likely to be dressed appropriately when the time comes.)

Once you have determined whether the baby shower will be a surprise or not, make sure that mom-to-be has registered for baby gifts. Even if you are having a non-surprise baby shower, it is never appropriate to ask the mom-to-be what she wants for the baby. Let the registry do the talking so baby shower guests can feel free to choose gifts within their own individual budgets.

You will need to enlist the help of those closest to mom-to-be, particularly the dad-to-be. He will be able to help determine a date and time for the surprise baby shower. As well as help to get her there with the least amount of suspicion. He can also make sure she doesnt head out in a baseball cap and no makeup.

Perhaps thinking she is just coming over for coffee! Close family will need to help with the preparation of a baby shower guest list. Since you wont be able to ask mom-to-be directly. You will have to rely on her mother or mother-in-law and maybe a sister to get this information. Be careful when sending the surprise baby shower invitations. You will need to mention that this is a surprise baby shower! You dont want anyone accidentally spilling the beans!

You can keep in the theme of surprising mom-to-be by going the extra mile. By ensuring that an unexpected baby shower guest is able to make it. Ask close friends of this baby shower guest to help with the cost of travel. If this is necessary as part of mom-to-bes gift. She will probably love that more than a baby shower gift!

You can also play baby shower games with surprise themes. Try playing the diaper surprise game by passing out diapers to all of the guests. With one of them having a mess inside (you can use chocolate or bean dip, or use your imagination). The one who gets the messy diaper wins a prize.

Or if mom-to-be is expecting a boy, you can play pin the diaper on baby. Just before your blind-folded guest of honor goes to place the diaper on the baby. Squirt her with a water pistol to simulate the surprise often associated with changing a baby boys diaper!

Sometimes, no matter how hard you work to keep the baby shower a surprise. Your mom-to-be may find out about it. Dont let this get you down, though. There will be some elements of surprise for her. Whether she is expecting the baby shower or not.

It might be unexpected guests, party favors, or an exotic cake. There will be plenty there that she didnt count on!

How To Choose Disposable Diapers For Babies

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By Sandra Rathbun

Disposable baby diapers have a huge business potential in the United States. This is because most of the parents find baby diapers more convenient as compared to cloth diapers. Other than this, you are not required to wash a disposable diaper.

Disposable diapers were introduced in 1940s, but became popular only gradually. This is because they were expensive in the beginning and not many people could afford to buy them. In addition, early diapers came only in single size and did not fit most of the babies. Therefore, the leakage was more profuse in disposable diapers than cloth diapers. However, disposable diapers started appearing in multiple sizes and designs in 1950's, but they were more popular with rich class. But, with the fall in the prices of disposable diapers in 70's, even middle-class people could afford to buy them. One of the prime reasons to opt for disposable diapers was, and still is - the convenience.

Soon, disposable diapers became light-weighted. Also, they were being manufactured in various sizes and designs. Along with it came diaper rash, which worsens with regular use of diapers. You can easily notice the diaper rash on your child's bottom. However, this rash starts appearing with blisters if the situation becomes worse for the child. Remember, diaper rash is a normal thing, and occurs in almost all the babies, who wear diapers at one point or the other. The child may develop diaper rash due to sensitivity to certain brands or bacterial infection. The baby is also likely to develop rash if the soiled diaper is not removed for a long.

If you want to effectively treat the diaper rash, you must try to keep your baby dry by changing her diapers often. If you clean the area, let it completely dry before you put the diaper rash ointment. It is advisable to use warm, soapy water to clean your baby than using baby wipes. Extra care needs to be taken when you take your baby outside of the house. Remember to frequently check the diaper, and change it if required. You must systematically arrange baby's diaper bag while going out. A diaper bag must be large enough to accommodate all essential items, such as diapers, wipes, clothes, ointment, soothers, blankets, formula milk, bottles, talcum, water bottles, and medicines. However, you can choose to have two different-sized diaper bags to suit different occasions.

In fact baby diapers and diaper bags make great gifts for various occasions, including baby shower and birthday parties. Disposable diapers though don't make great gifts but are certainly useful for parents. However, it makes sense to know the brand preferred by an expectant mother. While gifting a baby diaper bag to an expectant mother, remember to check its size and number of pockets. Most of the bags have plastic travel cases for wipes.

A Review of Baby Shoes

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By Morgan Hamilton

It's funny how much time and effort people put into baby clothing, when the fact of the matter is that babies themselves couldn't care less. Oh, sure, they may cry if they are wearing a shirt that they don't care for, but all you all you have to do is to strike them on something and they will begin to giggle and drool just as merrily as before. Nevertheless, even baby shoes are a major consideration for today's parents.

Some people have baby shoes collections that would be the envy of a Imelda Marcos. There are pint-sized track shoes and tiny ballet shoes, as if the babies were about to go run track, or do a graceful leap through the air. The strange fact is that babies shoes come in almost as many varieties as do adult shoes, and can be every bit as expensive.

That notwithstanding, I I guess that the purpose of baby shoes is slightly different in that functionality than those of adult shoes. With baby shoes, there are a few basic things that they need to do. They need to protect the babies feet and to keep them warm. Obviously adult shoes are exposed to much more wear and tear than this, often looking miles on the end each and everyday, let alone running, dancing, and all of our other activities. The fact is, just about any comfortable baby shoe will do just fine if the baby isn't actually walking yet. So basically, a baby shoes only function is to look cute.

There are many ways that cuteness is accomplished with baby shoes. Just by its very size alone, baby shoes are cute. I guess it could be argued that if you take a close look at any baby that they are kind of odd looking. They are pudgy, their heads are too big, and they drool and snot all over everything. Oh I know, those are horrible things to say.

So the real thrill that people get out of babies is just that they are tiny, and somewhat odd versions of us. The same thing holds true for baby shoes, they are tiny versions of the shoes that we wear. Aside from being cute, there are specific designs that are more widely received among baby clothes, including baby shoes, than among adult clothing. Cutesy little things like butterflies, hearts, and tiny little baby animals make for a very popular design and adornment on baby shoes. It's basically a recurring theme.

Baby Shower Gift Planning - Ideas & Baby Shower Invitations Cards

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By Sarah Porter

Baby shower gifts are a tradition dating back to the early 1900's where friends and family would throw a "shower" similar to how they would for a bridal shower - to "shower" the woman with gifts before her big day (marriage or having a baby). In the early days, the guests made most of the baby shower gifts. Umbrellas were a popular symbol of the event because the baby shower was traditionally an afternoon event and the guests would use the umbrella to stay out of the sun.

Today, if the Mommy-to-Be intends on registering, she should do so about a month before the baby shower. This allows the host to send the registration information along with the baby shower invitations. Modern day baby showers are much different and not just for tea. Baby shower gifts range from practical to outlandish. You should check to see where the Mommy-to-Be is registered for gifts before deciding the type baby shower gift to give. Here's some of the more popular baby shower gifts as well as some creative gifts to give the parents-to-be.

Clothing: Sleepers, receiving blanket, undershirts, diapers. socks and hats. make sure they are easy to change since too many buttons or snaps may be difficult for new parents to take on and off the baby. the Mommy-to-Be will need cute clothes to take the baby home from the hospital

Health & Grooming Products: Baby powder, lotion, baby wipes, desitin, q-tips, hydrogen peroxide (for the umbilical cord), baby safety pins, nail file, scissors, first aid kit, baby soaps and wash cloths, baby thermometer, diaper bag

Feeding: Bibs, bottles, bottle holders, baby formula, breast pump, nipples, bottle brush set, tipper cup, feeding spoon, baby burp towels, baby dishes and bathrobe

In the Bath Products: Towel with cute hood, wash cloths, baby lotion, shampoo, soap, baby brush and bath toys

In the Crib/Bassinet Items: Crib fitted sheets, comforter, bumper pads, mobile, crib trim, waterproof crib pads and blanket to swaddle the infant

For the Baby Room: Stuffed animals, cute pictures for the wall, gift certificate for a muralist to come out, dresser, changing table, cute initials of the baby on some type of ceramic item, picture frame, nursery lamp, furniture, boppy, bouncy seats and piggy bank

Toy Time: Teething toys, colorful play matt, black and white play matt, musical toys and plush / stuffed animals

Learning Time: Baby Bach Video, Baby Einstein CD's, classical music CD's, Disney movies, books for the parents, baby books, lamaze soft books and story books

For the Parents: Pamper the parents-to-be with a gift certificate to a spa, book store, record store, or a nice gift such as baby hand and foot imprinting plaster, Baby Bjorn or other baby carrier Coupons for babysitting

Here's some helpful hints for planning your baby shower gifts for the Mommy-to-Be and the Daddy-to-Be:

More Expensive but Practical Gifts: Stroller, bassinet, baby dresser, baby changing table, baby car seat, baby car seat attachment, high chair, baby swing, bouncy seat, sound monitor, video monitor, potty chair, diaper genie (container), safety gate, baby scale, breast pump, rocking chair.

Unique Gifts: Grow chart, gift for siblings, gift certificate for baby pictures, U.S. Saving Bonds for the baby, silver spoon or rattle and baby proofing the house

Baby Shower Coupons: For those that want to give their time for their gift and don't have much money, it is fun to be creative and make baby shower coupons for the parents such as " 2- Hour Babysitting", "Cook for the Mommy and Daddy two meals", etc. The parents to be will really appreciate this baby shower coupon gift book, especially for first time parents who appreciate the help

Gift of Saving a Life: A thoughtful baby shower gift is a gift certificate for a private CPR class for the mommy and daddy to be and a few of their selected family and friends who may become future babysitters

Diapers, Diapers and More Diapers: A great gift that seems to always running out for the Mommy-to-Be is to have everyone bring a few packages of diapers. New mommies never have enough in the house so getting diapers is a perfect baby shower gift

Useful Laundry Basket Idea: Instead of spending the money on a gift bag that is likely to get thrown away, use laundry basket, line it with a baby blanket and put the gift inside and cover with tissue paper or another blanket. Then the basket can be used for the extra laundry that will be added or for toy storage

Floating Ducky: Take a silver mini washtub and fill it with water and float a rubber duck in each one. Tie balloons to one of the handles. It's simple, but sweet. You can also place various baby shower related items next to the washtub, like shampoo, lotion and such

Laundry Basket Goods: Purchase a laundry basket, baby laundry detergent, you're favorite pre-wash, stain remover, wipes to go, and some fabric softener and place in the basket. You can arrange all these small items with tissue paper in the laundry basket, which will serve as you're gift basket

Baby Shower Baby Books: Have each baby shower guest bring a baby book for the new parents. Have each guest pre-write a sentiment or advice to the new parent's on the first page of each book which is a great memento to cherish for the baby growing up and the parents

Baby Plant / Tree: Buy a small tree that can be planted outside of the parents-to-be home. Tie baby items to the branches. The parent's to be can watch the tree and the baby grow at the same time. You can do the same thing with a small indoor plant

Fleece Baby Blanket: A fleece baby blanket is made by taking two pieces of fleece and putting them together, then cutting 3 in slits every 1 inch all the way around the blanket and tie knots to keep the pieces together. Then just roll the blanket up and tie it with a ribbon

Keepsake Box: Use a hatbox and add personal touches to the box by filling it in with onsies, clothes, pacifiers, bottles, wipes, diapers, etc. You can also include a pack of alphabet stickers so I could put the baby's name and birth date, weight and height on the box with the stickers once he/she is born

You can view lot of unique Baby Shower Announcements, inexpensive Baby Shower Invitations and personalized Baby Shower Cards add your personal message, along with your favorite fonts, ink color and then Preview your personalized baby card. This process allows you to see your baby card before you buy!

How to Stop Breastfeeding

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By Robin O'Brien

So you've decided to stop breastfeeding? But how best to stop? Especially as many children refuse to stop and demand that you continue nursing. There are many techniques, one of which should best suit you and your child.

Ask for advice as to how to go about weaning and you'll receive a variety of answers. Some responses range from just plain silly to potentially dangerous. Some people will recommend that you just change to bottle feeding whilst others will even recommend taking some form of 'drying-up' meditation; please avoid medication and there are better ways than switching to bottle feeding.

One school of thought - one that was quite common in our grandparents' day and is still common in some cultures - is for mother to take a vacation away from her child. The idea being that mother is far enough away not to hear her baby's cries and that when the mother returns after a week, the baby will no longer want to be nursed. There are some serious drawbacks to this method. The first being, that many children will not have forgotten about breastfeeding and will demand it upon mother's return. Secondly, and most importantly, is the emotional impact on the child when separated from mother. Adults may refer to the time spent away as 'separation', but the child will see it as desertion. There is nothing an adult can do to explain a mother's absence from a child less than 3 years of age. Each child has a threshold when it can endure a mother's absence; after this time a child will begin to mourn for the loss of its mother. The emotionally and psychological damage on a child shouldn't be underestimated. The damage can be life long. Many institutions and organisations now realise the harm done when a mother and child are separated; one only has to look at how many hospitals provide bedding for a child should the mother spend time in hospital. Weaning by separation is a risky strategy: avoid it.

Another 'quick and easy' method is to sabotage the sweat tasting breast milk. Mothers can purchase a foul-tasting liquid which is painted on thumb or nipple. In other cultures, mothers use various herbs and spices to bring about weaning. Igorot mothers in the Philippines have used ginger or chilli-pepper sauce. In the Eighteenth century is was quite common for mothers in European countries to apply mixtures containing alum, mustard or wormwood. Applying this type of quick-and-easy method of weaning is risky. For one thing, applying such mixtures must be painful for mother as well as child. Breastfeeding is as much about giving your child comfort as it is about giving nutrition. Breastfeeding is teaching your child to trust you, its mother. By suddenly, offering a bitter, foul-tasting liquid instead of the usual sweet, delicious milk will seem like a betrayal to some children. Nearly 2,000 years ago, the Greek physician Soranus expressed disapproval of the practice, citing the injurious effect of the sudden change, and that the bitter or evil-smelling substance could injure the child's stomach. Of interest is that the taste of breast milk changes when the mother becomes pregnant; many older children who were breastfeeding at the time have told how the once delicious milk changed to something less tasty. Although we don't know for sure, it may be Nature's way of weaning one child in preparation for the next. Anyhow, it doesn't always work as many children continue to happily suckle during pregnancy.

Ignoring a child's crying is hard for a mother. Nature has programmed children to cry when in discomfort or in need of something, and for parents to respond when their children cry. But ignoring a child's crying can be a good thing. This isn't to say we completely ignore our child's tears, rather, by occasionally not giving in, we are teaching our children a valuable lesson: we don't always get everything we want in life. We teach this lesson often to our children; by refusing to buy candy and the supermarket checkout, or by not letting them watch television past their bedtime. The secret is patience. You make the call; when to ignore a child's crying and when to respond. At first you can ignore the crying for a set time before soothing your child by nursing. Eventually you can allow your child to cry itself out, but to offer your breast the next time he cries. Given time, your child will come to terms with the diminishing amount of nursing she receives, and if you provide other stimuli and rewards the needs for mother's breast will fade out completely.

Creative Baby Shower Gifts Are The Bomb

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By Mandie Klein

Creative baby shower gifts will always be appreciated by the mother and the child. Nothing shows love and care more than a well thought-of present. Creative baby shower gifts are now readily available from a variety of vendors. Whether you choose to shop in your local mall or online, you will find something that is just right for the recipient. You just have to be a little patient and shop around for those creative baby shower gifts. In the end, you will be rewarded by a great sense of self-fulfillment.

Making A List

When it comes to creative baby shower gifts, there are a lot of options. People who are parents for the first time are not really aware of the various things a child needs. Creative baby shower gifts can help out in this area. You can always try to look at the parents registry, but sometimes, even that really is not a lot of help.

One great idea is a blanket. All babies take comfort from being wrapped up in their very own blanket. But wrapping an agitated infant could prove to be a Herculean task. So consider a swaddle blanket. It eases the process of wrapping a baby with its Velcro features. If blankets are too low-tech for you, consider a white noise machine. A what machine? A white noise machine. Much like the blanket, it will help a baby sleep.

A cute gift is a baby jumpsuit. These things come in short and long sleeved versions. They are very comfortable and do not cost a whole lot. They keep a baby's diaper in place and keep him warm at night as well. Of course, they can be personalized with the baby's name. Or you could go for little baby gloves. Babies are not really in full control of their motor functions and can scratch themselves with their own nails. You can try trimming but that is a difficult task. Little gloves are a great way to prevent this from occurring.

Checking It Twice

Crib shoes are for children who have yet to take their first steps. They keep the baby's socks on, and they make the process of learning to walk easier. Of course, they are very cute as well. Or how about wearable blankets? These are better than ordinary blankets because they do not pose a SIDS risk. Wearable blankets are usually made of warm fleece and are put on a baby like a nightgown.

As you can see, there are a whole host of choices to pick from, everything from apparel to high technology machines. And there is even more out there. Take your time and shop around. You are sure to find something that you will think is worth giving as a gift. Do not forget to try to personalize the gift as this will lend it that special touch. Working for that special touch will ensure you are remembered by the recipient. And that is the true test of a gift, isn't it?

You can never go wrong with creative baby shower gifts. You can go for baby gift baskets or baby gift sets with tub and accessories. Visit BabyLandGifts.com today for ideas.

Some Common Things Can Cause A Diaper Rash

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 3:01 AM

By Gerald H

A rash on a baby is extremely uncomfortable. I know we can't remember having a rash as a child but we can remember a mosquito bite along with the itching and scratching. This is the same as a rash. But as adults we can put medication on a mosquito bite to ease the dilemma. A baby can't tell you they have a rash. The only way they can tell you are by a constant cry.

There are so many rashes that can occur, which one could affect your baby. One well-known rash is eczema. This rash makes the skin scaly with a reddish color. Eczema can appear on many parts of the body. The most common areas are elbow, knees and the cheek area. You may think this is just dry skin and the simplest solution to apply is lotion. If the flaky skin continues for a few days, this is probably a rash. There are many creams and lotions on the market. Check with your pediatrician before buying any products over the counter. The over the counter remedy may cause more harm than good. Many infants can't handle the chemicals in some products. A simple phone call to the pediatrician may handle the situation. I would prefer the doctor see the baby in person just in case another type of prescription medicine would help.

It is hard to tell what an infant is allergic to. Allergies are usually diagnosed at a later age. The diaper you are using may be the culprit for the rash. It is always good to do a background check on diapers before using them. Cloth diapers can cause severe rashes if they are not cleaned. No matter what type of diaper you use, make sure it is not tight on the baby. The bundled areas around the leg have to be semi-loose. I know you don't want seepage occur but I would rather clean up a mess than have a rash on the precious cargo. Many parents still believe in cloth diapers. If you are still using them be sure to use a non-allergic detergent. The detergent you use may not be right for your baby cloths. There are detergents to use only for young infants. Avoid using fabric softeners on diapers. Another reason a rash may occur is the type of wipe you may use. Be sure to read the make up of the wipe. The ingredients may be harsh to your baby's skin. Change diapers often. Having a diaper on too long can cause a severe rash. After the change let your baby's bottom dry before putting on another diaper.

A rash usually lasts for a few days. If it persists contact your doctor.

CoCo Crib Bedding by Glenna Jean

Glenna Jean, a family business for over 25 years, specializes in soft textured fabrics and hand patch bedding. Glenna Jean baby bedding generally features 4-piece and 5-piece bedding sets. Coco Baby Crib bedding is a new addition to the Glenna Jean collection. The 4-piece and 5-piece sets both include a comforter, 4-sided bumper, dust ruffle and fitted sheet. The 5-piece sets include one extra item like the diaper stacker or a pink pillow. The accessories include a valance, lamp base with shade, wall hangings and pillows.

CoCo 4-piece crib bedding set colors include pink that is more on the peach side, chocolate brown, and cream. This pattern is both adorable and sophisticated. The patchwork designs and printed followers give this pattern an adult like theme but on the other hand the tassels, ribbons and ruffles stand out strongly and give it a nicely decorated childlike theme. The comforter measures 29 x 36, the fitted sheet is made to fit a standard size crib mattress, dust ruffle has a 16 drop, diaper stacker measure 13 ฝ wide x 25 long x 8 ฝ deep. The bumper has a 100% polyester fiber filling and measures 10 wide. It has single ties on each end and 5 sets of double ties in between and there are not ties along the bottom of the bumper.

Each item in this set is 60% cotton, 40% polyester and machine washable. The accessories are a great way to enhance the girl-like theme. The valance measures 98 wide with a 15 drop, the bunny lamp base with shade measures 12 x 8.5 x 15, the wall hangings measures 13 x 10 x 2 each and the pillows measures 12x11x 4. Glenna Jean offers fabric that measures 54 wide in case you are interested in creating your own special designs to add to your new nursery. There are five different fabrics that are being offered by Glenna Jean like brown, plaid, rose floral print, cream basket weave and pink all priced under $50.00.

Reviewing this pattern was a lot of fun, because of the combination of colors and designs. Most nursery themes created are based on animals, bugs, sports, cars and flowers with a combination of bright colors to complement the theme. This set was totally opposite of what you would normally see in crib bedding sets. And what really put this set over the top is the paint colors that are being suggested by one website to enhance the beauty of this set. Make sure and get paint samples if you are not sure of what the colors will actually look like before you purchase the actual gallons of paint. Otherwise, see if you can obtain fabric samples so that you can use them to bring to the paint store for picking colors.

Supercharge Your Baby's Brain - One Thing ALL Parents Can Do

Written by Mr.Jongruk on 4:00 AM

By Tara N Smith

In 1920 a popular New York pediatrician reported a startling and heartbreaking problem: Institutionalized babies were dying. In fact, ALL institutionalized babies were dying. The death rate was 100% for children under 2. What was happening? They had shelter. They had food. Their diapers were changed. They were otherwise healthy. So what was the missing link? The missing link was touch. These babies received little to no touch and caring, and thus could not thrive. The surprising (or not so suprising) truth is that babies REQUIRE touch, love and cuddles to survive. Touch is the only sense a child cannot live without. Deaf children will survive, blind children will survive, but unless a child can touch and be touched, he will die.

Now I'm guessing our ancestors never worried about giving their children an adequate amount of touch. Babies were carried and held because that's how mammals do it. Evolution made it so. The safest place for babies was in the arms of a caretaker. In many traditional hunter-gatherer societies like those observed in The Continuum Concept, babies are held constantly in the first six months of life. In Bali, at the age of 3-6 months, families will perform a ground-touching ceremony to celebrate the first time a baby's feet touch the ground. Humans aren't the only species that need copious amounts of touch. In his famous studies in the sixties, Dr. Harry Harlow found that rhesus monkeys preferred softer, cloth covered dummy mothers to wire ones, and in times of distress preferred the cloth dummy if it offered no food, even if food was available with the wire dummy.

Science offers an explanation for this innate need for touch that mammals have. It has to do with the "drug store" in our brains. Certain chemicals in our brains, for example oxytocin and opioids, create a sense of calm and content, and the ability to handle stress well. But the only way to activate these chemicals in the human brain is through loving human touch! Research with other mammals indicated that the more physical contact infants had with their mothers the less fearful and the more confident they were. They were also more mentally healthy later in life and were calmer and more attentive with their babies, and coped well with the stress of unfamiliar environments. Dr. Henry Chapin, the famous pediatrician who made the observation about institutionalized children, also found that animals who did not receive enough touch tended to be frequently tense and exhibited impulsive, anxious, irritable and aggressive behavior.

Research consistently confirms how critical touch is to human development. Our skin and brain develop from the same embryonic tissue and some scientists even consider skin to be the "outer layer of the brain". In Colombia, the phenomenon of 'kangaroo care' (periods of skin-to-skin contact) was invented out of necessity to keep premature infants warm, but doctors noticed some other positive side effects: the death rate which had at once been 70% for premature infants, dropped dramatically. Doctors found that skin-to-skin contact regulated the babies' heart rates and breathing, and helped them to gain weight more easily. Additionally, researchers found that preemies who received kangaroo care had brain development patterns in 10 minutes that was equal to 4 weeks of development in preemies who received normal care. They found that skin-to-skin contact helped develop neural synapses and increased the amount of alpha waves (associated with contentment and bliss) in the brain.

When a infant is distressed, she does not have the ability to calm herself. If she is left alone her brain will release toxic stress hormones, like cortisol, the positive opioids are withdrawn, and she will become "hyper-aroused". This is not a good arousal. If infants experience frequent periods of uncomforted distress, their brains become wired to be in state of panic and anxiety. It takes the touch and comfort of a calm adult for her brain to release the chemicals that make her feel content again. In fact a growing body of research indicates the infants who experience long periods of crying alone, actually have different brain development patterns, and can develop a constant feeling of anxiety, even when safe. It isn't actually the crying that is the problem. It is uncomforted crying that can affect brain development. So if holding your baby doesn't produce immediate relief, don't worry. Know that your calm presence is having an effect on his brain, even if the immediate effects aren't obvious.

Science has given us the information we need to create optimal brain development for our children. Let's let go of antiquated notions that have been proven untrue. Babies don't manipulate in the conventional sense, they don't have the ability to! They aren't even capable of clear thought. Babies cry to be held because their brains require it. It is a system completely beyond their control. Loving touch from a parent or caregiver is necessary and beneficial for infant brain development. The more the better! Of course this doesn't mean you must hold your babies constantly. And it doesn't mean your life has to be drastically inconvenienced. Babywearing, the art of carrying a baby in a sling or pouch, is a fantastic way to provide the closeness that babies need. It's actually MUCH less physically taxing than carrying around a huge carseat carrier. Slings and wraps are becoming much more popular these days and are even available at chain stores like Target and Babies R Us.

Most of us are not able to hold our babies constantly. In traditional societies, babies are often cared for by multiple caregivers including children as young as 3 years old. So this is article isn't suggesting that mothers are required to be with their children 24/7. I'll be the first to admit that I've had to set my baby in her crib while she cried to let myself "cool off." In fact, if a parent is not calm, this is the best option, as a upset parent doesn't have the same calming effect. I'm simply suggesting that we recognize that physical touch is a need, not a want, particularly for the developing human brain. Babies and children's lives are filled with enough stresses naturally, without creating unnecessary stress trying to "train" them to be independent before they are ready. So when you've fed your baby and you've changed his diaper and all his needs seem to be met, yet he is still distressed, remember touch is just another need, like food or shelter, and sooner than you'll be ready, he won't be a baby anymore and won't need you as much. Infancy is one of the most precious, profound times of a child's life. I recommend soaking it up.
